Writing Assignment Purpose

Rendon (2009) states in her book Sentipensante (Sensing/Thinking) Pedagogy, “In listening, we can experience a deep presence and recognize how at a very basic, even spiritual, level, sharing the stories of our humanity opens us to a deeper connection with others and ultimately with ourselves” (p. 51). The purpose of this writing assignment was to have high school students understand what it is like for those with mental illness to experience school, as they are a group that is generally discriminated against when it comes to education.
