Somnambulism (Sleepwalking)

This is a story of a dog named Scout
She was small as a puppy, but had grown quite stout.
She followed her owners, begging for food all day long,
for they had put her on a diet, which she felt was all wrong.

When she was not eating, she became very lazy.
But when she heard noise in the kitchen she went CRAZY!
Soon Scout became so hungry, she started doing something new,
it seems Scout was so hungry, she was sleepwalking for food.

First it was small snacks that no one else eats,
like leftovers in the trash and extra dog treats.
Night after night she would get out of bed and head to the kitchen, searching for chicken, cheese, and bread.

It got worse every night as she began to walk on two legs.
She'd leave the fridge almost empty except for some apples and eggs. After the fridge she would go for the cabinets up high, where she found sugar, cake mix, and crust for pie.

It was just a few weeks before owner's said to one another,
"Have you noticed food missing lately? And didn't you just buy butter?"
Now not even Scout knew the answer to this,
for as far as she knew she was asleep when this food went amiss.

Her owners took her to the vet a few months after,
and when putting her in the car, they both insisted she was getting fatter.
The vet confirmed what they thought, but they all sat confused; because they had been giving her less and less food.

This kept going on for several weeks more
Then came the day she could not fit through the door.
Her owners knew they must take action soon,
or else their dog would keep blowing up like a balloon.

Because Scout was so lazy, they never considered
that she would put so much effort into taking all their missing dinners.
It would not be long before the night of the disaster,
when Scout's owner's awoke to a crash that gave them an answer.

The first thing they noticed was Scout missing from bed.
This did not make sense because moving was something that Scout never did.
They ran to the kitchen and were in for a surprise,
to see the fridge fallen over and Scout munching on a bag of frozen fries.

It seems that she had become so large and so wide
that when she reached for the freezer, it tipped on its side.
If what they were seeing was not strange already,
it appeared Scout was still sleeping, cuddling with some leftover spaghetti.

The very next day, the owners called the vet
to find out if sleepwalking was normal for a pet?
From that night going forward the whole kitchen has locks,
I wonder what will happen when her owners notice their missing socks...?
